Woodblock Printing VR Game
This is a VR experience applet made by Unity3D and Blender. In traditional art teaching, students mainly watch videos in the process of learning woodcut printmaking. By using this applet, students can recognize different printmaking tools (carving knives, rollers) and, according to their uses, use them to complete the creation of printmaking. This leads to a better understanding of how woodcut prints are created.

Inspiration

The third lesson in Shanghai's art textbook for the second semester of sixth grade teaches the creation and enjoyment of prints. I could only help my pupils understand the essential knowledge when I taught this subject by viewing a printmaking video. It lacked engagement and appeal. Pico (a Chinese VR equipment firm) fortunately collaborated with our school and provided us with 20 VR machines. I took an online Unity3D programming course, designed the original artwork for the prints, then used Blender to generate 3D models and tool models for the prints. When students take this lesson, they will be able to learn about the printing process in a more exciting and interactive way.

Modeling
During the modeling process, I used Boolean operations to create the Convexity effect of the woodblock prints. Following that, I used UV animation to simulate a black ink-painted layout.

Illustration

This piece of work is one of my usual illustrations, and as it is black and white, it is suitable for printing. I did not use any works of famous artists in order to encourage students to participate in the design of original prints.
